English version: It is a record for the Brough Superior SS100 1939, in fact this is comparable to the Rolls Royce of motorcycles, the reason for this statement is due to the fact that the bike is crafted most exclusive and expensive, especially after the auction took place a few days ago . E ‘news today that a rare motorcycle Brough Superior SS100 1939, belonged to the British George Brough (manufacturer, runner and world record holder), was sold Sunday at an auction for half a million dollars, approximately 310 thousand euro . A figure very high for a bike even if old, even for Harley from the 900 in excellent condition you get to much … But this bike is not only seen as a mechanical means, it is also a piece of history and cinema of the last century. The Brough Superior SS100, where the initials “SS 100” stands for “Super Sport” at least “100 mph” (160 km / h), has become famous for being the most beloved motion by Colonel Thomas Edward Lawrence, known as Lawrence of Arabia, who in the last twelve years of his life he held even seven. The design of the SS 100 is the brainchild of George Brough, the first owner of the specimen auctioned. The bike, known for impeccable precision of details, was built in Nottingham between 1919 and 1940. That auctioned by Bonhams is a ‘second series’, equipped with engine and gearbox Matchless Burman. Registered in May 1939, the SS 100 George Brough attended the trial race London-Edinburgh, used as a sidecar with journalist Henry Laird. It was sold with a copy of the magazine Motor Cycling of June 14, 1939, in whose pages Laird wrote the reportage of the event. Last year, 90 years after production of the first Brough Superior SS100, the glorious British brand was back in the spotlight and we could admire the last EICMA in Milan with a new version of the bike that should go into production (very limited) by year. The “grandson” of the glorious SS100 however will not be affordable for all budgets as rumors say it will cost from 50 000 euro up, and will be produced only on order.
